Seek God's Direction

Hello my friends. Today I want to talk to you about our great need for God's direction. One of my favorite verses that speaks to this issue is Proverbs 3:6 (KJV). There we read, "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." In this verse we are admonished to do two things and we are told that God will do something in return. What are we to do? We are to acknowledge him. What does that mean and how do we do it? The word "acknowledge" means "to admit to be real or true; recognize the existence, truth, or fact of." It can also mean "to recognize the authority, validity, or claims of." So when we acknowledge the Lord we are admitting that he is exist and that he is real and true. And we are also recognizing his authority over us. So, we acknowledge God by taking into consideration what he has to say about a situation PRIOR to us acting on it. And not only do we consider his perspective on the issue but we submit to his authority over us. In other words, we want to know how he feels about it and we recognize that we are obligated to walk in accordance to that revelation. Why? Because he is God. He is the our Lord and Master. And we are his servants.

There are several reasons why we should do this. First of all, and really the only reason we need, is because it is only right that we obey God. But in addition to that, we should also acknowledge him because he knows all things. He knows the end as well as the beginning. He sees what is in the future and all the obstacles that we will encounter. If we want to succeed - and isn't that what we all want - then we should seek the direction of the one that has all the answers and never makes a mistake. We should also seek his direction because we realize how easily we can make the wrong decision. We don't know everything; we don't see what lies ahead; and we don't have all the answers. When we rely only on our own wisdom we can very easily make a big mess of our life. And let me add that there is a great blessing that comes to those that walk in obedience to the Lord.

Notice that this command to acknowledge the Lord includes every decision. God says, "In ALL thy ways." We are to seek the Lord's direction in EVERY area of our life. That is what a life that is totally surrendered to the Lord looks like. Even when the right choice seems obvious to us, we should still seek his direction. Why? Because, as we have already mentioned, he sees what lies down the road.

If we do this, God promises to direct our path. He says that he will respond by ordering our steps and by leading us in the way that we should go. Isn't that what you want? I know it is what I want.
